A Saturday excursion to Castleton Square Mall caused me to take a second look at Bakers - yes Bakers, formerly known (at least in my mind) for not-even-real-leather-only-suitable-for-exotic-dancers shoes.
Well, I don't know what's happened over there or when it happened, but Bakers now has apparently become a hot spot for cheap-ish (but at least made of leather) knock-offs of fabulous designer shoes.
Case in point: I purchased both the Bakers version of the Dior shoe worn constantly by Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City movie, as well as a note-for-note knock-off of the seen-on-every-celeb YSL Tribute sandal. Purchased both pairs for about $150, less than a tenth of what you would pay for the originals.
I know, I know - I love a true designer shoe as much (or more) than the next gal. But in these tough economic times, it's nice to know that you can always just go to Bakers for a cheap fashion fix.

This was my favorite of the new Be&D shoes, available at French Pharmacie. In addition to this soft pink, it also comes in a light beige with black - a true spectator, but with a rocker edge. Love it!

So, these are a semi reasonable facsimile of the Gucci sandal. A highly trained eye might be able to tell the difference, but most won't.
The Real McCoy
This is the Gucci sandal. Yes, I like it better than the Nine West version. It's undoubtedly a little bit sexier. But it's also about $500 more. Your call.
Prada Gladiator Sandals
These are the perfect gladiator, in my opinion. Love the grey color, the chunky heel...and the fact that they don't go too far up your ankle. If only I could find a version for less than the $600 these sell for...much less...
Pierre Hardy for Gap Platform Sandals
I liked these the best from the Pierre Hardy for Gap collection. They also come in a tan fabric, but the leather is much richer looking. And strangely they're the same price, so I don't know why you'd opt for the fabric over these.
Pierre Hardy for Gap Flat Sandals
I don't normally wear a lot of flats besides flip flops, but I thought these could be a cute and dressier alternative. The KatC Gap has them in silver, which I liked better than this tan.

Forever 21 Dress I Just Bought
Here's the $29.80 version of the Marchesa dress J Lo wore to the show. The picture doesn't quite do it justice; you'd think Forever 21 would steam the sample they photographed for their website, but then that might add to the price.

This is from the Prada resort '08 collection. Lovely, but easily duplicated with some well-chosen vintage pieces. I would hunt for a 50s skirt to pair with a modern sweater and shoes - you don't want to look like you're headed to "50s Night" at the VFW.
